Wendy Givens - Artist's Statement & Bio

"Art is not what you see, but what you make others see" - Edgar Degas

I enjoy every part of the process involved in creating a painting from the initial excitement of sketching out ideas, to the exploration of colors, values and shapes. Recreating for the viewer that spark that caught my attention in the beginning and enabling them to see it too is always one of my goals.

I'm currently working in acrylics on canvas or board. Acrylics are such a versitile medium, allowing me to experiment with vibrant color, shapes and textures. I also like to incorporate collage elements and make use of the many mediums and gels that acrylics offer. Each piece is a challenge and it is rewarding to see where they end up. My hope is that they will bring enjoyment to the viewer.
